Quick and Cheap Mantel Makeover

When i painted the brick on my fireplace a couple years ago, the ,mantel just never seemed right to me. I loved how the brick turned out, but something about the mantel just seemed off to me. I decided to just leave it, I had thought about adding a wooden mantel eventually. But while I was reading Shea McGee's design book, The Art of Home (Which i highly recommend) I saw a fireplace where the mantel and brick were both painted black.

I already had some leftover paint from painting the brick, so this mantel cost me $0 !!! and maybe an hour to do! I'm so glad i waited and didn't change out the mantel because I love how it looks now.
